    Introduction To Laser Arts

    SBU for the 60 Watt Univeral laser cuters in San Francisco


    Laser cutting and etching is hot new trend in the maker community, and with good reson. Whether cutting out intricate pieces that fit tightly together to make a 3-dimensional structure or burning your favorite image onto piece of driftwood, these machines allow you to take basic 2D vector files and create something remarkable.

    The univeral laser cutters are the most common and easiest to use in the shop. In the class you'll go over the basic minimal requirements to set up an Adobe Illustrator file and then use that file to make a personalized keychain. Once you've taken the class you will be able to use the Universal lasers to cut, etch, and engrave a variety of materials including wood, acrylic, and glass.

    This class uses Adobe Illustrator for the vector design. It will cover basics like how to set fill and stroke colors and stroke width to be compatible with the Universal laser. For more advanced Illustrator techniques check out our Illustrator class.

    This class covers the use of the 120 watt Epilog Fusion M2 Co2 core laser. This Epilog laser can engrave at up to 1200 dots per inch when rastering with advanced photographic dithering patterns. It has the ability to utilize color mapping for complex jobs such as variable depth engraving, as well as 3D raster engraving, stamp engraving and much more. The 28" x 40" bed is great for small-scale production runs!

    NOTE: There is a $10 per hour of reservation fee for the Epilog Fusion M2
