A jointer is used to make the face of a warped, twisted, or bowed board flat. After your boards are flat, then the jointer can be used to straighten and square edges.

A planer takes board that has been jointed (by you or the lumber yard) and removes material until you reach a desired thickness that is even across the length of the board.

Table Router

Once your board has been shaped and sized with the jointer and planer, the table router can be used to add decorative as well as functional features using a wide range of router bits*
